  • Congratulations, Ann Smith PTO

Our PTO recently won Patty Peck Honda's "Best PTO in Madison County" Contest. We received 101 votes, and, as a result, won $500, which will be used for upgrades to our playgrounds. Thanks to everyone who voted, and thanks to Patty Peck Honda for sponsoring the contest and for supporting our Madison County schools!

  • Teacher of the Year:
First-grade teacher, Mrs. Ashley Box, was named ASE's teacher of the year for the 2011-12 school year. Mrs. Box is in her fourth year of teaching at ASE. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Box actually attended kindergarten at Ridgeland Elementary before it was named Ann Smith Box class photo Elementary. She received her elementary education degree from Mississippi College. Her goal is to instill a love of learning that will last throughout her students’ life. Mrs. Box was chosen as teacher of the year by ASE faculty via a secret ballot, and she will be recognized during ASE’s April PTO meeting as well as at a school board meeting in the spring. Congratulations, Mrs. Box!

  • Parent of the Year:
Congratulations to PTO co-president Tammra Cascio for being named ASE’s parent of the year for the 2011-2012 school year. Tammra is in her Tammra pic third year on our PTO board, having served as co-president for the past two years and as executive vice president prior to that. She works full-time as an attorney for Gulf Guaranty Life Insurance and has served on various boards within the law profession as well as in the community. Tammra was recently named a 2012 Woman Lawyer Trailblazer by the Mississippi Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Committee. Tammra is living proof that you can be involved in your children’s education, while still managing a successful career.

  • Family Reading Night:
On Thursday, March 1, Ann Smith Elementary hosted Family Reading Night to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss and to encourage a love of reading among children. The event took on an “Around the World” theme to highlight the variety of countries represented at ASE. ASE students read passages of Dr. Seuss's The Foot Book in four languages, and then Mayor Gene McGee read the entire book in English. Participants enjoyed four different activity and literacy stations, and at the end of the night, each child got to select a book to take home from our February book drive. Be sure to check out the photos.
